He has given several keynotes, served as a distinguished speaker, and participated in panels at multiple global forums. His awards include:

Raj has worked very closely with large defense contractors, automakers, tool suppliers and vendors.  He has also played an active role in many industry standards including IEEE POSIX Real-Time Extensions, the Real-Time Specification for Java, Ada 83/Ada 95, and Real-Time CORBA.   His work on priority inheritance protocols, the first in-depth work on synchronization in real-time systems, bounded priority inversion on uniprocessors, multiprocessors and distributed systems.  His work is widely known and used in both real-time and commerical operating systems.   His priority ceiiling protocol is also supported by the AUTOSAR standard, the OSEK real-time operating system and many others.  The work by him and his colleagues on priority inheritance protocols is acknowledged to have helped save NASA's 2007 Mars Rover mission to our nearest sister planet.   His work on resource kernels using resource reservation is  expected to transform  real-time operating systems with MLS requirements.

Raj is the author of two books, and holds a U.S. patent.  He has also authored or co-authored more than 150 publications on real-time systems in peer-reviewed forums. He has chaired many conferences and symposia on real-time and multimedia systems. He obtained his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in 1989.
